Default Look who I caught today

Looks a bit of a left hooker. That's a pound coin beside him that fell out of his pocket!

As do trout. Small stream not too far away from me full of crayfish, also now home to some very large trout.
Most of the upper Thames tributaries are teeming with 'em with a corresponding increase in the number of larger chub but a more worrying decrease in the number of smaller fish.

Funny you should all mention that chaps-big Barbel and big Chub...the river is well remote, few fish it. A car pulled up and a fireman came for a chat. He told me the Chub lower down the river are over 7lbs now...mmm. Apparently they scoff the young small crays.

I took my fly rod down to my coarse fishing club stretch of the Thame to target roach the other week and bumped into a bloke who said he was contracted out by EA (I think that's who he said) to trap them and was doing this water for a few weeks. Had covered a good bit of the stretch with freshly baited cages. I asked him where the little bu&&ers would end up and he said in a massive steel pot........with a petrol stock and a match added for garnish. I won't miss them.

I'm only speculating here, but I very much doubt that the EM contract people to catch crayfish. You can I believe apply for a license to catch crayfish but as far as the EA is concerned the jury is still very much out as far as (Signal) crayfish control/eradication is concerned. Take out the big ones and the smaller ones flourish etc.
Any how, they are great to eat (and quite expensive to buy) so I would imagine that there likely end would be in a boiling pot with some herbs and butter rather than flambéed in 4 star.

Is that a native crayfish or a signal? I don't personally know the difference in appearance
