Default Who would you like to have fished with? the reprise

Hi all -

Searching for something completely different on t'interweb this morning, the search engine disgorged this great old forum thread:

Who would you like to have fished with?

Quite brought a tear of reminiscence to my eye, so it did.

So, four and a bit years later, have any of our views changed? (that's for the old and bold still here on the forums)

And what do the newbies think?

Be interested to see where this debate goes now, if anywhere...

Theo

Robson Green so i could drown him and put every one on here out their misery.
On a brighter note Paul Young and my grandad. He died when i was younger so i never had the chance to fish with him. From the photos my gran shows me of his catches, it looks like it would have been quite a profitable day out.

I would like to enjoy a day on a reservoir with some of the thinkers and innovators in our sport to better understand how they approached a day's fishing and some of the problems and puzzles that it throws up.
Of past anglers it would Dick Walker and Arthur Cove. And of those still with us, it would be Bob Church and Charles Jardine.
Happy days.

A day out with anyone from the Stone Age appeals to me just to see how the rivers were back then - company wise probably not vastly different from my contemporary fishing companions!

A good party might comprise of Orson Welles for tall tales, Noel Coward for some ascerbic wit, John Gierach for laid back guiding and PG Wodehouse for his quintessencially British sense of humour.

It has to be Charles Ritz for me and Odette Pol Roger. I'd need to glam up a bit first.

Otherwise it's my Great Uncle Joe who was baliff on the Shannon. He taught my mother how to fish. He also took my father once to secret lakes in County Lietrim. He would always wear a suit, always go to mass beforehand and thank god for every fish he caught.
My father said he was a magician. Joe only used black gnats to fish with. He took my pa out one day and it was boiling hot and dead calm, the water was clear. Not amazing conditions. My father said that the trout seemed to come out of nowhere and he would catch a fish almost every cast.

The family has his fishing diaries, I would very much love to read them and learn some of Great Uncle Joe's secrets.

The usual contenders I suppose, Cove..etc. Since meeting Bob Draper I'd jump at the chance, for the stories alone.

Shouldn't forget some of the pleasant guys & dolls on here. You know who you are.

Thumbs up

I've been lucky enough to fish with one or two angling greats !, some still with us and some, sadly not.

One angler that i would like to fish with would be Brian Leadbetter, Straight talking......... what you see, what you get guy !
