Default north berwick rivers?

Hi Guys,

I live in glasgow but I have to take my dog to north berwick for root canal surgery on tuesday. As the dog will be in from 9am till 4pm im looking to kill the time with a bit fishing. So, can anyone suggest a river to spend the day on that doesn't cost a fortune as the vet bill is scary!!!!

Thanks in advance.

You could try the Tyne at Haddington which is only about 20mins away from NB. Haven't fished it in years but there may be guys on here that can add their comments.

The Tyne as stated by wiremill. The Tyne is a super little trout river. It has a run of sea trout as well. Tickets are cheap and available from the ironmongers in Haddington. It runs through Haddington and you can fish there. (A bit busy for me.) Better to park your car a few miles south at East Linton, and cast your way upstream.
You could also try the Biel Burn which runs into the sea at Bellhaven. Park at West Barns before Dunbar and fish it upstream from the footbridge over the burn at the estuary. The trout are not big, but they will take the dry fly readily, there is always a chance of a slob trout or a sea trout. As far as I know the estuary part up to the high tide mark is free.

As Wiremill says the Tyne is a short drive from North Berwick - the water is extremely low at the moment but you will get easy access and a day ticket (£7)can be got from the sport shop at the west end of the main street in North Berwick (forgotten the name).

Pretty much the whole river is available under the ticket (see ELAA Home Page) and there are lots of sea trout in at the moment.

A short rod about 7-8' will be more than enough and you will find a lot of the river is overgrown.

Spots I would recommend are Hailes Castle, Abbeymill Bridge (go downstream) or Sandy's Mill.
