Default Best value fishing brand catering for flyfishers. Who do you reckon?

I’ve been incredibly impressed with a recent cheap-as-chips purchase of a Ron Thompson spinning rod, and it got me thinking about just how good some cheap tackle can be. I’ve a suspicion that Shakespeare, of all people, might offer the best combination of quality and price for the flyfisher. The Trion reel and Odyssey rods are inexpensive and yet people seem to love ‘em.

But who do you reckon offers the best combination of good quality and low price? Ron Thompson? Diawa? Fladen? Snowbee? Sonik? Scierra? Greys? Airflo? Wychwood? Whoever?

Shakespeare for rods. My local shop used to demonstrate the strength of Ugly Sticks by standing on them.

Bison for clothing like waders.

For out and out value, Shakespeare. The rods are excellent for the price, and my trion reel has been bomb proof.

For the next step up I would recommend Sonik to anyone. I have 2 of their rods now, and one reel/line. All have been lovely to fish with, and excellent value for money.

For good value and quality, and don't forget customer service, I'd say Snowbee and Vision. For sheer value Shakespeare is hard to beat, the Trion is outstanding for the money and very reliable.

Never had a Shakespeare, but i've got a couple of Daiwa rods. They're excellent to use, and just as good as the Hardy's and Sage's i have.

Good point about customer service BUT if you pay peanuts for something and it turns out to be ****, you'd surely be less inclined to complain, than if you'd shelled out big bucks. Simply, the more you spend on gear, the better you expect the customer service to be.
