Will be visiting the lakes and hope to fish these two venues again

Default Ghyll Head

It depends when you are intending to fish. At the moment the water is probably at its warmest and should fish well to sedge patterns in the evenings. However because of the wildly fluctuating weather the hatches can`t be relied on.

In the day time try the top end of the lake around the lilies and weedbeds.- often best. Damsels (nymphs) are always a good standby on floating lines and longish leaders. These will also work well in the middle section of the lake.

There was a small hatch of black buzzers today around mid day and my wife was instructing a client at the time and they quickly tried a suitable epoxy buzzer and the client was rewarded with a classic take but unfortunately he did not connect. there were only 2 other anglers on all morning and they totally blanked.

Come September the normal regular stocking starts again as the water cools and for a few days lures on intermediates will work well. Daddies are due any time now and this water usually produces well when they are around.

No reliable reports on Bigland but it should fish reasonably well as its fairly high so water could be cooler. Damsls, daddies, buzzers and sedges all produce well here along with lures especially hot orange fritz if daphnia are around or the lake has just been stocked.

High Newton Reservor is still worth a shot if its not blowing a gale. Last week size 16 black foam beetles did the trick along with daddies. Any small dry in black should work and there were sporadic feeding spells in the morning at the surface. Most action was around the disabled platform near the outflow but a lot depends on wind direction. If very windy then you can have great fun on a floating fry here over the next few weeks.

Unfortunately no idea on Esthwaite.

Good luck and tight lines

Bob
