Default Advice Needed: Two Trout Caught At Same Time

This afternoon, whilst fishing at my local fishery, I rigged up three Diawl Bachs on a relatively long leader: I have used this set up before and sometime fish a team of three buzzers instead.

I suddenly felt the line tighten up and it felt as though I had caught a huge trout. I then saw that I had caught two, one on the top dropper and one on the point.

It was a nightmare when it came to landing the fish because of the distance between the two droppers plus twice the amount of thrashing around.

I managed to land both fish eventually and I revived both in the water allowing them to swim back unharmed, but is there any specific advice that anybody could give me to make the process easier??

The chap fishing next to me proceeded to give me a lecture on why not to fish with more than one fly as though I had acted completely immoral....

Thanks.

The fact that you got both in, and released, meant you did it the right way!
You have gotta net the dropper fish first in any event, especially when long leader and 2nd fish is on point!
Now get out there and try it with 3!!!

This happened at the beginning of the season, when I was at a fishery, to the guy next to me. I just gave him a hand to net one when he had landed the other. Made it a bit easier that he was keeping the fish.

Though have seen one guy, net the fish on the dropper with the net about 4 feet extented out... he knelt on the handle got the point fly one in and released it before unhooking the fish in the net and both swimming away fine! Was impressed at how he done that!

Though well done on getting two at once... that is still on my "to do list", had two on once but one got off! What was better was one was a bow and the other a brownie... the bow got off

You may not believe this either but I had two on at 7.30 tonight. Perfectly true, I landed them with ease in under 20 seconds. Don't know what all the fuss is about.

Well...ok they were 2" long and both Perch. Guess that's not the same eh

This happens to most of us from time to time when using more than one fly, and as was said above if you managed to land both you weren't doing a lot wrong.

Quite often you will lose one or both. The strain of 2 fish pulling in different directions proving too much for the dropper knot. So the fish on the dropper or the bigger of the two fish is the one you lose. And if not, you then have the fun of netting both !

If the fishery rules allow droppers, pay no attention to anyone who feels free to lecture you about how to fish, if he doesn't like the fishery rules he should either ask the management to change them or fish elsewhere.
