Default Using still water techniques on rivers?

Lately I've been considering those slow, deep, often glassy sections of river that I usually pay less attention to. I was wondering if any of you employ still water techniques to these sections, due to some similarity in the conditions?

You could try running a blob under a bung down these bits..........

On a more seious note, i have caught well in such sections with small black (orange has also worked) goldhead lures fish just as you would on a stillwater. I thought i was going to get thrown off the Dove at Mayfield once because it worked so well!!!

I quite often fish a very slow retrieve on slack/slow moving river waters. Seems to work well for newly stocked fish but a 'dead drift' with a belly in the line pulling the fly round with whatever current there is seems to be a more effective method.

Cheers

Andy

Thanks for the replies. How about such things as sinking lines and buzzers? Do these have their uses in this scenario?

Default I can,t coment on the dry fly

One of my favorite spots on the clyde is a big slow glide, and as andy grey said the dead drift is a very good method, it,s caught me my best fish from the clyde the only difrence is i don,t like a belly in my line. Best of luck

Do you rate it that highly ?

Oh yes, they work very well. No tried the buzzer or static route. There are a few over hanging sections on my river. Let a nymph (damsel) float down stream and jerk back up. Get takes all the time.
