Default new trouting find

Good morning fellow troutists, great news if yer lucky to live in Lancashire like me, just found a new small trout water in Brinscall nr Chorley & have been down there this morning (sunday 8am) & it is fishing its head off! caught everything on dry flies & had the place to myself from 8am-10am....Nirvana
Apparently it Used to be a trout fishery years ago called Drakes Head but has just been re-leased to 2 mad keen lads who have just stocked it & are beginning the long slog of all round restoration.
Anyone remember the old place? wouldnt mind knowing what it was like in its hey day.
Get down there while its bubbling, tight lines!

Default new trouting find

i went to this water early last year for a look round and was told that it was owned by a small syndicate of fishers, looks like it didn`t materialise, guess i`ll have to give it another coat of looking over. I got the impression it could be a very good place for a few hours on your own in the piece and quiet
welcome any info if and when you get it

Sounds interesting. How would I find it if I was visiting for the first time from the Blackburn direction?
Any other information on ticket prices, opening times etc. gratefully received.

Cheers,
SharkeyP

Yes I remember it well, and it was a decent enough spot in the late 70's.
Drakeshead was also run as a kennels, and the name is very famous with the breeding of working dogs, both labs and spaniels.
It all went a bit sour some years ago, glad to hear it's being improved again.
Watch out for Scratch, he aint a million miles from there.
The place will fish its head off at the moment, if it has just been stocked, the fish will soon learn.

from blackburn take the road off to bolton via abbey village and belmont, at the other end of abbey village turn right across from the pub towards brinscall, turn left past smallish lake on your left , keep going through the woods and you cant miss it really.there is a cattery or kennels, and the fishery is in the trees
spoke to one of the guys running it this morn, tickets £10 c+r and various prices phone no paul 07938891738 + dave07547189279hope this helps

Got this from another forum hope it helps .........

Hello Everybody,

I am Paul from Kingfisher Fisheries and myself and my best mate have re-opened Drakeshead Fishery.
David and myself have fished together since the age of twelve and have promised each other that one day we will have our own fishery.
Now at the age of thirty six our dream has come true and we are the proud tennants at drakeshead.
Drakeshead has been a trout fishery for over thirty years.
On the 23rd of july the larger lake will be stocked with rainbow, brown and blue trout all about 1 1/2 to 2 pound good table size and also there will be some larger fish tagged with prizes and from that day on it will be Fly Fishing only.
Until then we are allowing people to fish both lakes on any method all we ask is anything other than trout that is caught, that they be placed in the smaller lake.
To date we have taken up to thirty pike from the larger lake and placed them in the smaller one with hundreds of silver fish, bream, rudd and tench, a lot of the pike are over ten pound and already in the small lake lives peggy our resident 36 pound monster pike.
It is undecided what will become of the smaller lake at present but being a keen pike man and allready having a good stock of them I would like to make it a predator water but the lakes are stream fed so it would mean isolating the smaller one and a lot of our customers are shouting for carp and tench.
So we are looking for the help of all anglers that are likely to fish drakeshead its voting time, All votes can be cast to myself or David at Drakeshead.
If I get my way I will be putting a good head of Catfish and Zander with the pike, So come on lads help us out and big up the Predators.
Drakeshead is buried in stunning woodland surroundings and boast's beautiful views but as always there is a price to pay for anything we enjoy and for us it is the FLY, so insect repellent is highly recommended.
Yearly memberships are available as are day tickets,
for more info phone myself on 07938891738 or Dave on 07547189279.

Thanks all,
looks worth a punt. Sounds like they deserve our support. I'll put it on my 'to-do list'.

About 500yds or so, Steven! Fished it once about about 20 years ago.. that's no reflection on the place... it's a lovely little water, I just prefer boats.

Fair play, and good luck to the new guys, I hope they manage to make it work. I regularly take walks down there, and it was kinda sad to see it lying 'fallow' for a couple of years. Too nice a spot to waste.

Directions -

Find Brinscall... ask for the swimming baths (Lodge Bank)... go past the baths on you left, past the lodge on your left... keep going... over a cattle grid and into the woods... keep going along the little tarmac road... then cobbles... swing around to your left. When you can't go any further... Park up!
