Default Furled Leaders

Bought some furled leaders ( green olive colour) off Mr Trout recently. I have got to say they are the bee's knee's and have found casting a lot easier with them.

Anybody else use them?
If so
Any good tips for use?

I use them for dry fly work (that old rascal mrtrout's again....), in which case just the obvious tip of keeping them well mucilined. I just run the leader between the mucilin in the tub and the pad that comes with it as often as necessary. After a while they build up a nice coating anyway. I also do as Steven suggests and attach the tippet to the furled leader with a loop to loop joint, which I think damages the leader a bit less and avoids nipping it with snippers when removing.

Got some myself as well. They turn over 5-6ft of 3,4 and 6x for me with no problems and my casting isn't exactly the best. Since switching to the furled combined with one of pirates fly lines everything seems to have fallen into place for me. I can now actually attempt to target rising fish and have on occasion succeeded.

Got my first furled leader off of Mr Dibble some years back now , when i first started fluff chucking and have been using them since, i even make my own mono ones now, but have still got that first one and is still usable wouldnt use anything else.Mr trouts seem great value for money as they are quite hard work to make in thread especially if you like rings on them??
PS Mr Dibble , the rod still going strong too just me falling to bits Gaz

Lightbulb Interesting thread.

These things are just starting to show up in posts on US based boards. (Truely) Like a new discovery.

If you build these, and want a HUGE new market, think 'across the Pond.'

Fred, I think you will find they have been around for a number of years.
I purvey Blue Sky of Wisconsin's leaders & have done for around ten years now. In fact I believe I was the first person to bring them to the attention of fly fishers in the UK. They were certainly available in the States then with a few articles in knowing onlines mags such as Global Fly Fisher. Jim Cramer seems to be one of the first to market these way back then. Too many doing them in the UK now & the market was never HUGE

Yep - good stuff and great value.

I used to use Jim William's furled leaders , but he has stopped making them. His had a tiny ring at the sharp end (like Roman Moser's), which meant that you could cut the tippet off against the hard surface with nippers.

I've attached a slightly larger ring to one of MrTrout's recently, but haven't used it yet so don't know if it's too heavy or scary.

regards,

Doc

Yep, got myself one last month.

Since using it my presentation and therefore catch rate has vastly improved. They're fantastic
