DON'T GO TO CAYO LARGO. DIY FISHING IS NOW PROHIBITED.
go on to the cubamania website.
http://www.cubamania.com/cuba/forumdisplay.php?...
all the information you need about fishing and where to stay can be found here or at world fishing website.
The fishing on Cayo Largo is run by Avalon Fishing booked through Angling Direct Holidays cost of 11days 6 fishing is £4k.
rumer has it that the guides now ride around the island in skiffs with shotguns and drive the fishingman off.

Checkout the salwater section do a saerch on Cayo Coco - although you'd be better going to Andros in the Bahamas foer a fishing holiday

I fish regularly with Avalon (though JDR and IdlJ rather than Cayo Largo), and would be very surprised to find an Avalon guide with a shot gun. You may, however, find local marine police so equipped - and best not argued with. For freelance fishing, Cayo Coco or Cayo Guillermo have reasonable opportunities, and would both fit in with a family holiday. There are, actually, quite a lot of places you can fish without hassle, but they are scarcely suitable for family activities, and require a lot of searching out. Another problem with some of the "out of the way" places is that many of they suffer the from net fishing, which can render yesterday's hot-spot tomorrows barren desert. For me, I have to say that the Marine Park areas controlled by Avalon do have the merit of lots of fish, although I quite understand the anger and disappointment of those who used to be able to fish Cayo Largo freely. And I have mentioned this to Phillipio and Pepe on several occasions.

Going to caya coco again in august/september, was there last year at same time.
this is off season in cuba, therefore a lot cheaper.
Last year cost me 600 quid each from gatwick, this year 700 quid, same flight times etc.
Is all inclusive, and i mean all, if i had paid for drinks last year, would have been thick end of 1400 quid for drinks alone!
only downside is hurricane season!
resorts on the north coast islands i.e coco or guillermo will be only half full, and very few facillities for kids, so if is full familly holiday maybe not best.
however fishing is brill!!
You got to get guided bonefishing if first visit, otherwise you will fail.
will cost you 100 quid a day.
all the hotels have guides turn up or phone numbers of guides to call on.
some by repute are bad, some unknowns are excellent.
As you are planning for next year, current info is not so good re guides, however the fishing areas are constant, but they all blow hot and cold.
Check out my previous thread last year on best flat then.
shows hotels within walking distance.
regards
bert
