Tend to agree with that comment epo.
Retailer would def replace if you had original box, no questions asked.
However from what you have said I would put it down to inexperienced sales person, so play heavily on that fact when you go or phone, but is also worth mentioning the fact that you have communicated with others on web, re choice of line offered by retailer.
will work wonders.

Hi Epoxy1, maybe the "Spey" line is not a traditional long head spey? If it is a short head or a Scandinavian Spey line it will be indeed be a perfect pike line.
However a 10# scandi line is much heavier than a 10# single hand line so if the rod is 10# a matching Scandi head would be more like a 8#. Of course if it is a full spey line then he really has sold you a lemon. A full 10# spey line is more like a 14# single hand line and if you get enough head out to cast it overhand you are risking a rod breakage from overloading.
Hope you manage to get it sorted.
All the best.
Mike.

Hell of an 'understatement' there Mike. Single hander lines (under the AFTMA scale) and a (tongue in cheek) 2-hander line are worlds apart. To scale this back, a 3wt single hander line will be about 160 grains; to 'load' a 3/4 wt 2-hander you'll need 275-325 grains. Or if you will, twice the number.

Don't go there, Mike's "right on the money." (Bad pun intended.)

Is just his reasoning re reluctance to exchange.

Have a quick browse at this site.

Greys Fly - Products - Line System - Flylines - GRXi Spey

Shows line details.
has head of 50 ft, but is loaded to last 20 foot, as would be norm for double handed spey casting.
For normal single handed overhead casting, head would be around 25 to 40 foot, loaded to front 25 foot to allow you to shoot line.
