Default chigboro trout fishery - Malden Essex

Was thinking of taking a trip there next week.... Its quite far from me but have some time of work and fancy trying it. Is it worth the 100 mile round trip?

Any info appreciated.

yes, i'd say its deffo worth that sort of distance, I have only been into fly fishing for about a year, and have visited alot of the essex trout fisheries several times (the 2 in epping, hanningfield, + more) and have come to the conclusion that chigborough is the best by far, the main lake is about 60 acres, the other is about 30 acres, both are well stocked with rainbows and browns, or if your feeling brave you can go to the smaller lake stocked with 5lb+ fish, I normally arrive at 2pm then fish till sun-set 9-10pm, then you will be sure of a rise, best advice i can give is keep moving and find the fish.......family run, and a beutiful place with plenty of wildlife, which as always nice to see if you work in an office!!

Yes, the pierced, tattooed one is indeed a regular. I had a day with him at Chigborough earlier this year and it is a lovely place.

That must be a different Chigborough to the one I know then They are about 10 and 5 acres.

Nice venue, quite easy by normal standards. C&R some of the year but probably not just now. Excellent in the winter/spring.

Travelling from from Barnet, I would take a boat at Ravensthorpe for similar money, in preference to Chiggie. Elinor is also way better.

Chiggers is NOT easy in Summer and the fish can switch right off in the heat as it is not a deep water with the main lake only being around 6ft deep.

Is is ok early morning and late afternoon/evening.

I recall the last time I was there in high Summer when I saw few fish swimming very weakly on the surface.

Perhaps Charlie's suggestion may be worth considering

Thanks mate... I just looked on a Ravensthorpe web site... do you know if I stick in the postcode on the Sat Nav that they show on the web site will it take me to the fishing lodge?

The reason I ask is Ive been caught out more than once finding fisheries on Sat Nav... you know what I mean. I fished Pitsford, Grafham, Rutland, Hanningfield, Bewl etc etc etc etc but never Ravensthorpe. The post code they give is NN6 8LA.

Can you help? Thanks

No, that postcode is rubbish

Here is the Google map view showing that location and Ravo ;;

NN6 8LA. - Google Maps

Two of my mates went to Elinor today and took a boat - they both had more than ten fish and one of them had a dozen on dries...............

Suggest you pm Atlanticspringer (Jon) about Ravensthorpe - he has been going there most weeks and doing well.
