To answer your question the 15ft rod should be fine. I use a similar style rod all be a tad longer.
Have not used the floss tied to the main line technique but some do & that is fine. You do not need a long tippet & you can err on the heavier size of nylon as it does not touch the water. For Trout I use 6lb Maxima but any proprietary brand would suffice. Best bet is selection of Daddies. Long shank hooks 10s & 8s are fine.
Tips: Wind you need wind not plenty off it but a good steady breeze is best.
Allow the fly to lift & billow out with the floss & gently "caress" the surface arcing left to right forward & back & basically covering the area & not concentrating in one spot, simply by lifting & moving rod left to right.
Floss can easily be damaged as the fibres are usually not woven but the type I have sent you "Spinnaker" is better than any of the others out there but what some do is knot it every couple of feet with a simple overhand knot.
Trout have a tendency to splash at the fly & not take as if trying to drown the insect so lift up the fly & put it down in the same area but it will come back again looking for it & takes are usually fierce.
So do not strike, God I hate that word "lift into" is a better term when the fish turns & goes down with the fly.
When the fish is near the boat & ready for netting might be an idea to shorten your telescopic rod a couple of the lower sections to get the fish at close range. Can be quite difficult to net using the longer rod. Not a comprehensive list but a few pointers to get you started.
Dapping to me is the finest form of fly fishing there is & can be quite nerve racking & exciting all at the same time. Shuck Raider on here is an Irish dapper so you might ask him to chip in.
Enjoy the experience
