Default fish pimps advice

i have been having some trouble getting the fish pimp floats to stay on the leader- sometimes they fall off first cast other times they slip down all the time. i tried superglue on the slot side, which stopped them coming off but then they have to be thrown away for a new leader.
any top tips welcome.

ps- i am not opening a debate about the use or otherwise of floats on fly lines.

Unless you twist the line around the tubeing then they will off - all the time!

I remove the rubber tube and glue in a short section of ear-bud tube. Then, I slide my leader through the hollow ear-bud tube and peg it in with a the end of a cocktail stick (just a short section - not the whole length)

this hold the pimp in place but also allows me to slide it up and down the line as required.

I just use a cocktail stick section without the cotton bud tube.forget the silicone tube, rubbish.but you have to get thick ones.(cocktail sticks)

Agree with Jim and Ben - turn it into a miniature Fishing Gazette float.

As an alternative to cocktail sticks, buy a plastic hairbrush with soft and thick "bristles", clip some of the bristles off with wire-cutters and you'll have some tough and non water absorbing pegs to use.

When putting your leader loop on flyline don't push it right to the end, push it up till you have the length of the pimp left then fix leader length to loop and slide up rubber off pimp up leader till it sits on the leader loop in the gap, when you fit the pimp to this you will find it a nice tight fit, ian

I tried fish pimps last year and found them to be absolute c**p when i followed the instructions properly. I might try them again with the cocktail stick method mentioned above, as i'm just using the disposable foam sticky ones at the moment.

Thanks for the tips guys, but i must say it really is a poor design when people follow the instructions precisely and they don't work!

Sad thing is, they work a treat when firmly attached as noted above and balanced to the weight of the nymph underneath. I love watching a pimp tripping downstream towards me and then dipping under the surface - grayling on !
