Default Spiders

I think I've completely confused myself and am looking for clarity! I fish the Wharfe and have recently been quite successful fishing a gold head Pheasant tail in the fast runs set approximately 3ft under an indicator.
I've read a few articles that talked about North Country Spiders, so i ordered some nice ones along with a DVD by Oliver Edwards.
What I'm struggling to understand, is how i set them up for fishing depths of between 2 to 5 ft.
Would the due and trio method work with a dry fly as indicator? and the spiders look so light, so do you need a heavier point fly to get them down?
Or, am i missing the point completely and the spiders are meant to be fished much higher in the water.
On the DVD Oliver seems to cast a team of spider to a rising trout, i would have put a dry on in this situation. Like i said, i'm confused.
Any help appreciated

Hi mate,

Spiders are to be fished high in the water, but that doesn't mean you carn't fish them deeper.............. To be fair though i find the best results are to fish them high.

They'l catch fish at any depth.

If you want to fish them deeper either add a heavier pattern or two or buy weighted ones........ either with flat lead or tungsten sheet underbodies.... or bead heads......... in tungsten/ metal....... various colours.

If you want to fish a trio type method with a spider included.......... try something along the lines of........... clink top........ spider middle..... weighted pattern point.

I often put spiders high through rising fish and the results can often be exeptional.

Fast, shallow runs......... no weight.
Fast, deeper runs.......... Weighted spider/s.
Rising fish, usually no weight.

I often fish spiders with a weighted spider on the point or a ptn with a few turns of lead in the thorax. That way you get the spiders spread out depth wise... all depends on conditions etc... I suppose though, often you can just fish them high and have 3 unweighted spiders. I'm no expert on them though ... I think a few others on here fish them quite regularly.
