Default Disinfectant??

Hi Guys,

I removed an enormous pike from my local trout water last night, before anyone gets all excited, it was floating belly up struggling to turn itself up right. It was well on the way out with a very bad infection. It weighed a hefty 38lb 9oz and I'd say looked magnificant in it's day.

I now need to disinfect my gear. Any sugestions of the type of disinfectant I should use??

Would normal household disinfectant do??

I really don't want to take any chances. But my God there was a pong of it.

Keep bleach away from your gear. Some things it affects, some things it doesn't. It isn't something to take changes with. Stick to water based disinfectants.

Thanks
Rick

I'd use Jeyes Fluid.

Put it to you like this, I was really really regretting netting it on the drive home, even after washing the net. But it was trying its hardest to swim away.

Strange I know.

Thanks for the help guys.

Yes. Virkon 1% soln is also the best specified choice for the compulsory disinfection of fishing tackle and equipment before entering many countries nowadays.

angling.is - angling in Iceland - Disinfection of tackle

Most vets will sell you some.

Salt solutions do not disinfect. That wouldn't work here.

Thanks
