Default On the market for a new reel to suit a 10ft 7/8 seatrout/grisle rod.

Hello guys,
I am currently using a 10ft 7/8 redington cps rod and a youngs 1530 reel.

I love the 1530, its the perfect workhorse, never lets me down no matter what I throw at it.

Problem is it is very heavy compared to my redington rod and I think it would cast much better with a lighter reel.

Now I am looking for a reel thats quite light to suit a modern rod, I am also after a reel which has that very loud oldschool ratchet sound which many modern reels have left behind.

So basically I want a reel with the vintage sound and looks, except I want a good drag system and to be quite light to suit my modern rod.

So tackle tarts, whats out there for me?

thanks

Not sure on the weight but have a look at a Greys Grxi+ robust salt water proof spare spools included and an old school noisy ratchet and the drag will work from loose as you like to locked up.

Perhaps a bit too vintage old-school but a Hardy Princess fits most of your requirements. I've had one since time began and it is light, the drag works and the sound is recognisable from the car park!

i recently got the scierra d lite reel off gromit for a very good price.the spools are very cheap and the drag is fantastic.not perticularly old school but a good tool at a very good price.

Hardy Princess is not suitable for a 7 weight line, it's old hat anyway, wildly over priced, narrow spool, the drags a joke by todays standards and the handles not counter balanced.

Look no further than the Caimore Eternal MK2, you can get FOUR of them for the price of the Princess.

Never seen one of these up close, but it seems to tick all your boxes - classic looking, but a modern drag. I am not sure about weight though, will have a quick google.

5-8 weighs 240g, 8.5oz which is hefty for a SH rod, but not overly so for a DH. Price is a bit of a shock at 490e!

Any of the shimano's (biocraft/ultegra)or a diawa altmore would suit your rod, your needs and your ears. Hardy bougle also has a noisy click pawl but you better hold on if you get a big fish.

I think the new wychwood truefly SLA would be perfect. Extremly light, big enough and also looks very good

Thats my recommendation

The OP is after "Vintage sounds and looks" not a design copied from a set of 1990's halfords 5 spoke alloys
