Default Aargh I blanked !

First time in two years river fishing that I blanked. Miserable!

Flooded river, deep brown, flowing fast.

Tried lobbing a tungsten nymph under an indicator for a while then tried a big Klink for the hell of it.

Awful feeling - knew when I looked at the state of the river that i shouldnt have bothered.

Oh well, nothing ventured nothing gained.

I think I saw one rise all evening - do fish feed in these conditions ?

Cheers all.

I tend to find when a river is like that then a worm fished into a hole works best. But I often fish to keep my catch. Not much use if you are a sport only fisherman.

Any time I blank I think of this and it usually puts a smile on my face despite the disappointment.

Its the bad days that make the good ones.
At least you had an excuse.
Just think how you would have felt if the conditions were perfect and you blanked.

I've blanked at both Avington & Dever Springs (not every time of course), the latter when an 8 year old was pulling a fish out every chuck.

The conditions you describe suit a large weighted stonefly nymph, you know, the big ones that bite back. size 10 long shank, lots of lead, scraggy olive/brown seal fur body.

I caught the best fish on the river just as it started to drop.
