John,

I made the mistake of fishing it back in February, on what was the first mild day seen in the area for a number of weeks. Given how fish take a while to adapt to change, I should have known that it would be very quiet.

One mental note I did make was with regard to the new fly lake they've opened - Meadow, I think they call it. Looking at it from the lodge end, there are overhanging branches at the top left-hand corner, which seemed to be quite a holding area when I was there - I just couldn't provoke a take!

I was not impressed with fishery at all despite catching a 7lb trout from willow , there were very few quality fish in there ie only fish I saw one over 3lb was one I caught at over £30 pounds thought this lake was poor . They are more interested in the course fishing now there are better waters available now .

Really? What makes you say that? Jan and Ray run three fly lakes and a fly stream plus one carp/specimen lake and one normal coarse/pleasure lake. I would say it definately leans more toward fly fishing as that is where the bulk of the income comes from - that and the accommodation. As someone who has helped out there throughout the last decade I know this to be true.

Jason the Farm Manager is in the throws of creating a coarse fish hatchery to keep the 2 lakes stocked and to sell fish on, it is not an indication that they are going to stop trout or have lost interest in trout.

I do the website and have recently asked carp and coarse anglers to give me reports on how well they do for the site. I have done the same for the trout since day dot - but this time of year the going is tough on all small stillwaters due to water temp. As such we advise people that Willow isn't the best choice mid summer and is much better value when fished in the autumn, winter and spring where if you have your limit on Willow you can then do C&R on the other lakes giving you a full days fishing.

I apologise for not updating the monthly report recently but I am on dialysis three times a week trying to stay alive so I have more pressing matters right now, but I will update it when I get the chance.

I would also mention that we had what was hopefully a freakish winter where the lakes were frozen for the best part of 12 weeks. As a result the business has only just now got back on an even keel.
