Default Fishing in Ayrshire?

I'm going to be working up near Kilmarnock, Cumnock & Bellsbank in August, can anyone recommend any good trout fishing (river or loch) available to visitors?

Two that spring to mind (that I have fished) are Springwater near Dalrymple and Burns Fishery near Tarbolton. Can't help at all with rivers I'm afraid.

I grew up in Ayr, and as above, the two that spring to my mind are Springwater and Burns Fishery. Not been to Burns in years so can't comment on that, but I always take a trip to Springwater when I go home to visit family, and always enjoy it.

There's also Coyle Water just on the east side of Coylton. Again, not been there in years, but I think they have a presence on this forum. It's a smaller place than either Springwater or Burns.

Rivers? No idea about day ticket places.

Hi,
There's an endless amount here, is it wild loch trout you're after? Or Stocked? Do you want access right to the water or is a walk in or up OK?
Regards
Colin

Talking Thanks guys

Thanks for the suggestions, the website is great and I'll take a look at Springwater & Burns.

Colin: Wild would be great and I'm happy to walk if its worth it.

I had a ticket for the River Irvine, only river i could find during the foot and mouth.

It was the Dreghorn ticket i think and had some nice stretches away from the towns. Its stocked and wild, some stretches also looked silted and dead.

Ayshire rivers, i think have all got good runs of salmon so you might have competition and may require to learn how to duck.

Duncan,
If I were you I'd buy the New Cumnock Ticket, that will get you fishing for Brown trout and grayling on the River Nith. It'll also get you onto the Afton Reservoir for Browns. It gives you the Deugh river and and the water of Ken, these are superb for good wild Brown trout after rain, spate rivers. The ticket is, I think £10 for the season.
You've got Loch Doon right at Bellsbank (my neck of the woods), it's free and good sport, the road runs the length of the loch about 5 miles I think...
There are many more lochs and some rivers to choose from, it depends what you're looking for.
You have a PM....
Regards
Colin
