Default Matt and Iain Horror Show

This evening I finally got round to watching the Iain Barr/Matt Hayes DVD which landed on my doormat recently, along with a Fishtec catalogue, and I was very disappointed at the way the pair treated their catch.
Although the fish were all being returned, they were mauled about, juggled with and even dropped, while being wrestled into submission for the camera, and generally mistreated in a quite disgraceful fashion.
Neither man even appeared to wet his hands before handling the fish, which probably goes a long way towards explaining the cover line: DEADLY TIPS FOR SMALL WATER TROUT.
It would be fortunate indeed if none of those fish later succumbed to a fatal infection because its layer of protective slime had been damaged.
I see the DVD was “brought to me” by Trout Fisherman and Airflo, and I make no comment on the involvement of Airflo, with their barrow-boy pricing policies (RRP £199, but to you, my son, £19.99.) and their never-ending “special offers” which turn out be anything but “special.”
But I suggest that Trout Fisherman should be ashamed of themselves.

Angus, lets be honest and fair here... I will be.

In the course of an average days fishing, despite all my best intentions and efforts, several of my fish will be "wrestled" with, "juggled" and sometimes dropped. I wish I could say that 60 to 70 % of my fish go back hassle free, but in all honesty I suspect it's more like 50. I wish I could make it 100%, but fish have this annoying habit of being very slippery, and very lively when they have just been fetched in. How dare they?

Having said all that.... I ain't seen the vid

I haven't seen the DVD either Angus but your post does seem a bit over zealous.

I haven't seen any of Craig Barr's stuff but of what I've seen of Matt's, he always seems quite careful when handling fish albeit the odd unintentional slip does appear to occur from time to time.

I quite like Trout Fisherman magazine.

Angus you are spot on with your comments. A five year old could handle the fish better.

Aye the first DVD was much better than this one, switched it off half way through.

For a couple of experts was also a bit shocked when they were handling fish.

Yes their fish handling was poor, but the thing that annoyed me was that they got 'special permission' to return fish on a C&R water.

Do they think that us viewers are so unable to watch a fish being killed? I found it patronising. Why not kill the fish and then hold it up to the camera and take as long as you want?

But did anyone spot the recent magazine (no names) that spoke of gently spooning the fish and then releasing it??

I was always of the opinion that was a no-no!
