Default Streams going green in Huddersfield...

...where "green" is used in the positive environmental sense of the word.

A great project owing much to local MP Barry Sheerman, local councillors and local businesses which was set up following a WTT auction "Day's fishing for one rod on the Colne and Holme" donated by Slaithwaite and District AC.

Trout in the Town has been very involved in training Greenstreams personnel to deliver "Mayfly in the Classroom".

See also, hot off the press, the Advisory Visit report supplied by Trout in the Town to help Greenstreams (and their partners, especially including Calder & Colne Rivers Trust) to do the best they can for their rivers.

See bottom of page on the following link (and the rest of Greenstreams website) for more details and to see an example of the WTT Advisory Visit reports (consultancy fees and report production are free to recipients).

Good form Paul

The more I read about this organisation the more I feel we should all contribute as much as possible. Great work, and reading the advisory report, not hard to make significant improvements. This work is essential if we wish to keep our native game fish. Well done chaps and count me in, it’s about time I gave something back.

I have spent years in construction and think nothing of running and managing multi million pound construction sites but it’s about time I did some re-building. Since beginning fly fishing I have actively searched out forgotten stretches of the Irwell sometimes wading long distances to reach undisturbed fishing grounds.

It’s only now the questions of sustainability and habitat protection have dawned and thanks to the WTT and TITT I find myself motivated to help in any way I can.

Come on chaps let’s get some bulldog spirit and do some fighting on the beaches.

You know it makes sense.

Thumbs up

Nice one AH,

Through Theo I've been pointed towards some good contacts for the Irwell so there's every chance that we'll get a Trout in the Town chapter batting for the needs of the river.

Watch this space and I'll keep you up to date with progress - also, any other Forumites who want to match Acid's example - let me know. It needn't take hours, but any time you give will improve the chances that we'll all have native fish to cast a fly at in the future.

Here are some Huddersfield trout (from downstream of the recent pollution problem - so by sheer luch rather than design - some fish escaped at least).

Yes sir - it looked pretty bad with the numbers of dead fish witnessed in the pollution (one of several in recent years).

Resilient little beggars sometimes!

Acid - my tailor will be most upset

Not sure if it's the shirt or the balsam in the background that's making me wince more

Seriously, good news about those survivors, Paul. But if anyone could find 'em, it's you!
