Default Kyle of Tongue Trip

Hi folks,
Me and a m8 are travelling up to tongue and planning to travel the way back down to edinburgh fishing as we go, but doing most of our fishing in the highlands. I have always wanted to drift from a boat and fish for salmon & sea trout can anybody recommend some lochs worth giving a bash?
Also any general information about Tongue and surrounding areas would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Darren

Default Thurso

I am lucky enough to have married a lass fromThurso and fish regular, well worth the 40 miles drive from Tongue to hit Loch Watten (probably the best brown trout fishing you will find anywhere in Scotland), you also have St Johns, Helein, Toftandale, Calder - spoilt for choice.

Hugo Ross tackle shop in Wick or Harpers in Thurso will fix you up a boat no
problem (pay the extra for an outboard).

Can't recommend Watten enough, my idea of heaven!!!

Total agreement with Rabster , Loch Watten is the best brown trout loch in Scotland bar none . As for sea trout from a boat try Loch Hope

You realy should make sure you get a day on Watten.
Lovely silver fish!

Pick up a copy of Bruce Sandisons book, all you need to know abou that area.

Let us know how you get on, i have still to fish the kyle of tongue.
Maybe next year!

Good luck

Munro

Cheers for the replys chaps.

Rabster am not looking to smell great when fishing (Hugo Boss) shop in Wick.

Think Watten is a must then. Will be sure to write a report on how the trip did go. We have purchased a digital camera but are no photographers so picture quality may not be all there, but will give it a go.

Thanks again

Darren

Anything to do with tongues are generaly a good thing, although
some of the females in Caithness can be a bit scetchy!

This boy posted on another thread and has some good pictures
of Watten on his blog, worth checking it out.

Good going if you made a sucess of it when it was gale force,
we were just about past our flies before they hit the water.

Always a good idea to take a sinking line to get down a bit right enough when its like that and I only had a floater and a midge tip with me

Can't wait to go back but not for tongue......female....young farmers

REALLY

Loch Hope is pretty much booked up except North End. Loch Naver is bouncing with seatrout and salmon at the moment. Forget Loch Brora head straight for The Kyle of Sutherland, the rains brought tremendous runs in.
