Default Fishing within the vicinity of Castle Douglas

Hi all;

Just wondering, are there any good areas to get some Wild Brownies out around the Castle Douglas area, should we say, within a 30 minute drive of there?
If so, any tips etc... all welcome

thanks

Look no further than Laird Mannoch Estate at Twnholm.
They have a nice wild brown trout loch, expect to catch lots of fish, mostly small but there are a few larger specimens.
Reasonably priced at approx £20 - 25 for the boat for the day including permit(s).
Also a great location for spotting Red Kites as an added bonus.

Go to Alderneuk near Terregles and Dumfries.
Best place in the world!

It has Browns, Rainbows, Blues and Tiger trout all of a big size!

I don't know the contact details but they are somewhere on these forums with directions also.

You wont be dissapointed, great place, great chat and the best cake you will ever taste!

you could normally fish the River Nith but it very low at the moment!

you get day tickets at the local fishing shop in Dumfries.

there was a lot of rain at the weekend so maybe it might be worth fishing.

there are browns, great salmon and at evenings/nights the sea trout run also.

beautiful part of the world near Castle Douglas, gods country in my opinoin, so much to do.

peace

Hi,
Laird Mannoch would be my first port of call too Tel 01557820322
You'll have great fun there, I've never caught anything big but there are plenty up the the pound mark.. I've watched osprey fish there on 2 occasions too...class! It's £25 the boat
Another I'd consider is Barscobe Tel 01644420461 it's near Balmaclellan. I caught a 3lb wild brown from there a few weeks ago. £12 per fisher includes the boat.

Regards
Colin

Regarding Loch Mannoch, i'm fairly new to wild brownie fishing, i've only ever caught 17 wildies in my life, and at the moment i'm just interested in fish, not so much specimens yet, how many could i expect to catch up there in a Day? If you weren't to boat fishing how much is it?

Hi,
Laird Mannoch is boat only, but don't let that put you off. The loch is shaped a little like an egg timer, so you only need to fish the first part of the loch, it's the best anyway. As for catching, on the right day, which is probable you'll catch more brown trout in one day that you've caught to date. (If you can fish a bit anyway)...It's full of fish and I expect lots when I go. The first part of the loch is shallow with weed beds, so the fish are close by you all the time......
Regards
Colin

If you were to travel slightly further you can get wild brown trout fishing in the Galloway Forest Park. There is Loch Dee, Lillies Loch, Loch of the Lowes and the Black Loch.

Probably the most accessible is the Black Loch, reasonable bank access, I ahven't fished it in a long time though.

Not sure if either the Dalbeattie Angling Association or Castle Douglas Angling Association offer trout tickets for the River Urr.
