You mean Scotland's S.N.P. Environment Minister?

Misguidedly I believe she believes in jobs, no matter what the environmental damage, rather than elitist salmon fishing.

Surely she should hopefully believe in a healthy balance between the needs of the people (jobs) and that of the environment?!? I have never parataken in "elitist" salmon fishing but I would guess that the money the tourists bring in to Scotland to fish there is not negligible. She may make jobs for the few people who work on the fish farms but if the aquaculture industry destroys the local aquatic environment how many would it affect?

Is always swings and roundabouts with these things.

Hoping they find a better way to farm them

From a related article
"The Habitat Directive was aimed at protecting certain rare species of wildlife in coastal areas and rivers. The subsequent regulations introduced across the EU to abide by the directive required anyone who wanted to set up a fish farm had to prove that it would not have a harmful impact on the local environment and the protected species.

That proved a tough barrier for aquaculture companies to overcome and provided a competitive advantage to fish producers in Asia, where local regulation is much more relaxed.

The Irish Republic's BIM has told the BBC that the European Commission should roll back the Habitats Directive to make it easier to open a fish farm."

There was a reason for it being a "tough barrier". A F!ck it we need a few jobs so lets start the r@ping again. These people are beyond retarded, its criminal.

I couldn't give a hoot about the salmon fishing itself, I've never been and probably never will, its the environmental impacts and threats to our wild salmonids I don't like. As the environment minister I can't see why she is so deeply involved and endorsing of this, if it was a factory belching pollution that had the same impact, would she still be all over it like this?
