Question Mayfly?

I was on the Loch (Isle of Harris), on Friday. After 2 hours of heavy rain the wind dropped and there was a huge hatch of what looked like Mayfly. In the past I have called these beasties heather moths, but close up they are about 3/4 of an inch long, fawn and have a mayfly like tail. Anybody know what these flys are?

Billy
