John Gray gives some info on his site here

Trout Fishing and Salmon Fishing in Scotland - Places to Fish

and also here

Salmon Fishing in Scotland - River Teith

As he doesn't mention trout fishing and the fact that the river is known for migratory fish, it seems it's the case you have to buy a Salmon permit if you want to fish for broonies.

I think this might be covered in the Forth System protection order but I think there was talk of providing trout fishing permits for the Teith.

Maybe someone could post a link for the Forth system protection order.

Anyone ?

You can buy a day ticket for migratory fish. It's about £40. Don't know if broon troot tickets are available but I doubt it.

Not wanting to stir things up or nowt but you can fish for brownies anywhere that's not a 'stank' i.e. an enclosed artificial stocked fishery. So any stretch of river, even the famous junction pool, is fair game. If there's ticket availible buy one if not it's up to your concience

I can hear the keyboards rattling already

http://www.scotland.gov.uk/Topics/ma...rse/17519/8903

"Fishing rights are private. It is not the fish but the right to fish for them that is owned."

"The rights to fish for freshwater fish belong to the owner of the land that is adjacent to the water. An exception to this is in respect of so called public waters, where there exists a public right to fish for trout and other freshwater fish. A public river is both tidal and navigable, and the right extends as far up river as ordinary spring tides (as marked on an OS map)."

"In the case of fishing for trout and other freshwater fish, the general rule is that fishing without permission is a civil rather than a criminal offence. "

"The remaining exception from the general rule of fishing for freshwater fish without permission applies in those waters that flow into the Solway, except for the River Annan. In these rivers, the provisions of section 9 of the Solway Act 1804 make it an offence to fish for any fish without the permission of the landowner or occupier."
