Default Would a 7wt fast sinker be ok on a 7/8 wt rod?

Sorry think this is about my 5th thread in a couple of hours but I have so many questions.
I have been givena 7wt di5/di6 line and want to use it with my truefly 7/8 9.5ft rod but am wondering what way it will affect my casting with it being lighter but denser.

Thanks
Al

I cant see it giving you any kind of problems, afterall it is a 7# line going on a 7-8# rod

What I really mean is with my casting being cr@p would it be more difficult to cast than say an 8 weight line?

IMHO no sink lines feel weightier can,t see it being a problem it,s a 7wt line.

I think this would be ok, fast sink lines of that nature are usually thinner and more aerodynamic. I would say don't think about the line weight, it does match the rod rating and think more about your casting, windy conditions you would maybe benefit from the heavier line rating.

Not quite, the first 30ft of any fly line, regardless of density, should weigh the same, within the grain weight tolerances, 177 to 193 grains or 11.47 to 12.51 grammes.

Yes the taper weighs the same as Stewart has said. Due to the fact sinkers are impregnated with tungsten the diameter of the head will be less than the equivalent weight floater, which offers less wind resistance so gives the 'impression' it's heavier when casting.

That's my take on it anyway.

I often hear about fast sink lines breaking rods ?? I also hear that people underline the rod by 1 line rating to get around this issue ??

Ok I understand about the first 30 feet etc.... but what I want to know is it the fact the the rest of the line will weigh a lot more than say a floater ?? Is this what causes problems ??

Cheers .

I would say tis probably the extra pressure caused by having to drag the sinking line up and out of the water that causes rods to break?

That can't put as much pressure on a rod as the casting surely ??

Hopefully some one will be along soon to clear this one up ..

Where is that fella with a wooden peg leg , eye patch wearing parrot fiddler when you need him ??
