Default Separate cheap reels or 1 good reel

I am wondering about this after my vision koma kassette gave up on me last night the drag discs have came out and the piece that holds them together is f****d as well, Am going to get a new reel/reels depending upn your replies as I cannot get along with the new spool locking system they have put on them after i had to get a new cage as the spool where slipping on the reel.

So the point is what should I do buy some cheap reels, size7/8 and have one reel per line as you can get reels for 10 pound now.
Or buy either a good cassette reel or a reel with cheap spools and have one reel.

Confused

depends what you call a cheap reel. a couple of £10 reels will not do the job well, i've had some and they're terrible. complete waste of money. I also have a custom painted Abel at about £650 and to be fair, it usually stays at home too.

My Shakey Trion is a superb reel for the money, the wychwood SLA looks fantastic and comes with 2 spare spools, and thke greys G Series and GRXI are widely liked. If i were spending £100 on reels, i'd probably get a couple of trions, or perhaps a couple of SLAs if i could get the cost down a little bit.

Just been in the same boat myself and decided to buy 2 Grey's GLA composite reels. They cost around £32 each and they seem pretty decent tackle for the money. I'm sure they'll give me years of service.

Would really love either the trion or the sla but the spool cost for the trion is putting me off it know anwhere you can get them cheap.

Go for cheaper reels - if you find one that suits and is robust enough and that you keep them in tip top condition they should last.

I use mostly Leeda LC 100 (take a look at Ebay) for boat work and save the more expensive ones for chalkstreams and the like.

Yep, that type of thing - Scierra Avalanche/Okuma Aiframe (same reel), Redington Crosswater all similar and v good. Or if you want a traditional arbour style, hard to beat BFR/Leeda Dragonfly concept (with cassette spools and disc drag)

I would say it depends on how you generally fish, FH, and how many different rods you own and use.

If you find yourself switching lines alot, for example from a floater to a sink tip and so forth, but you only fish with one rod, then a single reel and multiple spools is the way forward.

If you own multiple rods in the same or similar line weights, then I'd get multiple reels. Generally, I favor this approach for two reasons: It enables me to bring multiple rods on an outing so I don't have to re-rig to change lines or go from a floating offering to a sub-surface. It also provides an extra measure of safety in case you're going a long ways from a spare. It doesn't matter how many spools you have, if your reel breaks, goes overboard, etc, you're screwed.

For cheap and reliable, I like the Okuma SLV.

I'm with you on that Grouse. Its all very well having one reel with loads of spools, but my chopping and changing usually involves different rods, rather than different lines on the same rod, so having more reels gives you more options than more spools. Consequently I have a lot of reels but they're all pretty cheap ones.
