Default Travel Rods as hand luggage

Whats the whole thing about it all now?

Can i take a rod as hand luggage without being accused of wanting to stab the passenger next to me or the air hostess?

If i took it as hand luggage would i be allowed with it on?

Thanks

You will most probably be denied permission to carry it as hand lugage and have to pay (Sleazy jet, Ryan air etc ). You are better off putting it in your case.

You will not be able to take it on as hand luggage. I take mine through in hard case luggage, but if you don't have any then a length of drainpipe capped at both ends will protect your rod(s).

Why are they not allowed on as hand luggage?

They are not listed as dangerous or prohibited items but as far as I know carriers do not permit them as they are seen as a hazard or potential weapon.… at times it doesn't make sense, but it's their planes, their rules and if you want to take your rod - put it in the hold!!

They probably say they are dangerous because you could take one section and break it leaving a sharp point?

I have flown both business and economy in Europe and Transatlantic. My experience in Europe is that you get stopped at the airline check in counter and if you do make it that far then security will stop you for trans-atlantic flights. Reason in both instances was then I might take over the flight with the metal rod tubes. Just not worth the bother. Check it in.

i have had a mixed response some airlines allow you to take a rod as hand luggage and some don't. i have been down the route of calling customer service for them to say that it is okay only to find out at security that you cannot take it on.

its safer to book it in, just make sure its well protected.

good luck

Since 9/11, I've had very little luck traveling with a rod in hand-luggage. Always some security thing or another, and it depends entirely on the security staff, so there's really no point asking customer service.

Prior to 9/11, I used to regularly travel with a rod and a spear-gun () as hand-luggage and almost never had any problems, especially with Continental Micronesia. In fact, sympathetic ground staff would tell me to carry on my fishing equipment so as to keep better care of it! Those were the days...

its sad how society has changed.

some arilines as discussing the option of no handluggage at all. you would only be allowed to take on escential items; passport, wallet etc.
