Default Kirkby Lonsdale

Hi

I am going to Kirkby Lonsdale in the next couple of weeks and would appreciate any advice on good fishing spots. I prefer fishing a river but also like small still waters.

Cheers

Rob

Sorry it aint fishing advice, but get a brew and a bacon butty from the caravan parked up on devils bridge, they are legendary and worth driving many miles for.

Your best bet will be the butty on Devil's Bridge. The river is dead low at present and we're not bothering to fish. With the exception of KL&DAA, it's mainly private beats in the immediate vicinty.

I called into nearby Farletonview stillwater, near exit 36 of the M6 last week and they have stopped fishing for the time being because of the drought conditions.

It's been dry for so long, and having fished the river around KL for over 50 years, it will need several days of continuous heavy rain to revive the Lune. Even then it's going to be very dirty and smelly for a few days.

Hell pom, you sound like a northener with all this brew, and bacon butty talk.
They are good though I must admit, just avoid weekends, or you will queue behind several hundred bikers for one.
As said the river is VERY low, and not the easiest place to get onto.
If you fancy a bit of small stillwater sport, carry on up the M6 to J38 and follow the road to Kirkby Stephen, and a few miles along you will come to a place called Bessie beck, a series of three small lakes, the main one holding some decent browns and bows.
Cafe etc on site and well run, phone first to check they are open, his times are a bit strange, but not a bad day in these drought ridden times.
Google Bessie beck for details.
If you carry on as far as Penrith, 30mins from Bessie beck, you can get a day ticket for the Eden/Lowther/Eamont, and the Go Wild vouchers to fish the Lyvenette, and Troutbeck.
These are all desperate for water as well, but we are still catching, mainly evening rise time.
Hope that helps.
S.

I had a looky over the Sedbergh AA water last week - just to see how low it had gotten.....

Sure the river is low, but unusually for the upper Lune it has also started to colour up and show algae over the rocks
The Lune is poor for trout anyways - best stick to the stillwaters I'm afraid.
