Hell pom, you sound like a northener with all this brew, and bacon butty talk.

They are good though I must admit, just avoid weekends, or you will queue behind several hundred bikers for one.

As said the river is VERY low, and not the easiest place to get onto.
If you fancy a bit of small stillwater sport, carry on up the M6 to J38 and follow the road to Kirkby Stephen, and a few miles along you will come to a place called Bessie beck, a series of three small lakes, the main one holding some decent browns and bows.
Cafe etc on site and well run, phone first to check they are open, his times are a bit strange, but not a bad day in these drought ridden times.
Google Bessie beck for details.
If you carry on as far as Penrith, 30mins from Bessie beck, you can get a day ticket for the Eden/Lowther/Eamont, and the Go Wild vouchers to fish the Lyvenette, and Troutbeck.
These are all desperate for water as well, but we are still catching, mainly evening rise time.
Hope that helps.
