A Russian newspaper has apologised for urging its readers in Britain to go poaching for fish at certain private lakes where, it said, they could catch their own ingredients to make carp soup – an Eastern European favourite.

The editors apologise. 'In the future, we will tell more about the features of fishing in the UK and on the rules to be observed on the island of fishermen.’


Environment Agency chief executive Mark Lloyd said: ‘The ingredients for fish soup should come from the fishmonger, not from fisheries.’
