Default what is it

out walking the dogs last night came on what i thing was one of the sedge family, jet black but had 3 striking red spots on each wing never seen it before.

Yes I saw one of those the other week, hadn't a clue what it was so thanks! It says its the "commonest day flying moth" - and yet I've never seen one before
