Default Tapered Leaders 7ft, Where to Buy??

Hi Guys,

Normally I make my own leaders taper them from different breaking strains!

But fancy getting some ready done tapered leaders in short lengths 7,footers!

Where is the best place to get some for a bargain price?

Thanks

M

Me too! But they're expensive! Looking for good quality at a bargain £price.

But, thanks for the heads up!

Mostyn,

I got some 7 ft Varivas leaders from Phil at Spiders Plus. I think Platinum Tackle on the forum do some at that length too.

All the best,

Gudgeon

Hi Mark,

If Phil, would do 4, tapered leaders for a tenner inc, postage, I could be tempted to try them! - Do they go down to 6x - 7x, ??

Mostyn,

You're on your own with the haggling - and I've just checked Phil's site and the leaders don't seem to be on it. Give him a call!

I've taken to putting a tippet ring on the end of the leader and I tie the tippet onto that - it saves chopping back the leader every time I change or break off the tippet and they last a lot longer.

I also chop the thinnest taper back a bit as I think it gives me a straight leader and a wrinkly, drag-defying tippet. Or is that just my bad casting?

Hope to see you soon.

Mark

Mostyn,

I presume you want these for small stream work? If so then get you usual 9' brand and chop most of the really heavy/thick butt section off to get to the right length. I use Fulling Mill leaders and finding that with the SA XPS lines, that have a very fine tip, that the butt section is too thick to nail knot and leaves a heavy, fish scaring knot, so I buy 12' leaders and chop them down to about 10' to 9' to over come it. This is for my normal river set up, my leaders go down to 6lb. to which I'll add Maxima Ultragreen 4lb then 3 and, at this time of year 2lb or even lighter to end with a 15' or so cast.
