going for a job in a fieldsports or any other kind of shop I would think that they would want to employ the person that can actually do the job.

And the job is?

1 - Knowing how and where to hunt, shoot, fish etc.

or

2 - Being best able to utilise a customer blessed with an excess of funds over wit.

Colin..

I'm sure you would have been perfect too unless a guy walked in who fancied a weeks trout fishing followed up with a week in Scotland, and then looking for a weeks game fishing in South America, and by the way he says he also fancies a few grouse in Autumn.

I guess they get a lot of those people in their shop.
Oh well better luck next time!, don't let this knock you back!

Colin..
Mate,

I see were your coming from !,

I applied 3 times for a position over a number of years. The advertised vacancy was for a ' fly fishing ' specialist within a large company that has a strong global chain.
' Sorry, not enough experience ' in retail was the reply............
Really makes me laugh as they still continue to employ people for the above post that may well have retail experience............... but do not have a clue about general fly fishing.
Change the advert to ' retail ' assistant then !

Of course 25 years of fly fishing experience can be learned ' as full training will be given '........................
And sales / retail, well now that's a whole different matter.......... you carn't train to gain this experience over a few weeks..................... this will take years and years to learn............... and then some more !!!

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm !
