Default Fly Size - International Rules

just had an arguement with a fishing mate of mine about the fly size international rules ruling and was wondering if someone could clear it up for me.

so...............In the case of a shuttlecock CDC dry fly, where does the overall fly length get measured from? is it from the tip of the CDC or do the materials get stroked backwards and then measured?

I'll be damned if we could agree on the answer!!!

Cheers

FJ.

Hi Gareth, Taking a B175 10 as a bench mark,I think your combined hook and cdc length cannot be longer than that. Not 100o/o.

Overall fly length cannot be more than 15/16" and hook cannot be longer than 5/8" including the eye.

If your fly, CDC Shuttlecock in this case, is smaller or equal to 15/16" then its legal...

That was my interpretation as well. I tie my shuttlecocks with a small "tuft" of CDC but my mate ties them with a large tuft due to his eyesight. if we are interpreting the rules correctly (i.e. the overall length of fly, in the case of a shuttlecock cdc, would be measured from tip of cdc to bend of hook) then his flies are ILLEGAL but he's never been pulled up on it. he was under the impression that all fibres/materials were wetted then brushed backwards before the measurement took place.

Better check his 'damsels' too.... no doubt he'll be under the impression that one can wet the 3" marabou tail and brush it forwards Same difference.
