Default New Fly Angler - What Kit?

I fly fished as a lad and 20 years on want to start again. This season mainly on stillwaters whilst developing the nack again. I had a casting lesson and the tutor said I should buy a new rod, coz they've come along way in recent years.

He suggested a 9'6 Vision rod #7 with a Vision Koma reel and a #7 floating line. Having googled, I've come across their Nite and Nite Catapult rods.

What's the difference, and is it worth the additional spend? Is this the right kit for a new fly angler on stillwaters?

Thanks

Vision Nite Catapult + free Vision Koma Reel

Is this a better deal?

Instructor suggested buying Vision rod and reel? On what basis?

Buying blind can be a big mistake, set yourself a budget for rod, reel, line and sundries, then have a swing with a few rods within budget, find what feels good to you.

Difficult sometimes to try before you buy I appreciate, however just look at the classifieds section on here for plenty examples of what happens when you don't.

Good luck with your new kit and many tightlines!

The Pirate.

Have a cast with a rod first, one person idea of whats great may differ from yours.

Some shops have casting pools, Walkers Of Trowel Nottingham for example, or shops at fisheries would.

Going along to the Tyne Rivers Trust day at Lambley Farm. They'll be a few trade stands, and plenty of opportunity to test a few rods. Thanks

PIRATE IS CORRECT

i bought a new rod and reel etc last friday and went up to the GAC and had a shot of a couple rods before i bought it.
u really need to cast with the rods and have a good shot of them.

i went for the greys grxi+ 9foot 6 inch 6 weight, ive got to say it casts great.
it is different from my shakespeare ody 10 foot 6/7 weight but nice, will take a wee while to get used to it.

i too have just picked up flyfishing again the last year and half.
great fun, and when u finally catch a fish its a fantastic feeling!

oh, i christened my new rod on the saturday, yeeeehaaa
peace
