Default What line weight for a 7/8 rod

I am looking at getting a sinking line for my Wychwood treufly rod which is rated for 7/8. What line weight should i get as I have read that different line weights affect rod action and casting and also what would be the airflo equivilent for this as they have 2 numbers?

Yes can understand that but does it mean the line is a 7,7.5 or 8 weight?

It means 7 or 8, personally I'd stick to a 7.

I'd go for an WF#8 every time for a sinking line to match a #7-8 rod.

Give both a try (IMHO) sink lines seem to shoot better than a floaters so i,d personaly try the 7wt first. good luck

I don't know if there is any truth in it, but I was once told that if a rod has two line ratings ie. 7/8 you should use a 7# double taper line or a 8# weight forward line.

I know what you mean, the airflo lines come in 7/8 then 8/9, or put it another way 7.5 and 8.5, which line is best suited to the rod? I have a Wychwood Extremis 8 weight rod (yes just one number) and I tried a 8/9 line, freebee from T&S and the rod felt overloaded. I know its a different rod but if I was you I'd choose the 7/8. As an alternative to Airflo try Pitsford Pirates lines on this forum. I've only tried the slow sink line so far but it casts as well as my SA Supra floating line, at half the cost. Definitely recommended, service was excellent too!

On that particular rod I would absolutely recommend WF#8 lines.
