Kielder
I was reminded off a days fishing at Kielder reading busbiegaz thread about spare shear pins for a Shakespeare engine. Me and my mate Stefan had going fishing at Kielder for the day and hired one of their boats with an outboard motor on this was back in the 90's I had just taking up fishing and it was just worm fishing, Stef used to go to Kielder allot so he knew his way around so I just took his advise. We had been their for few hours when we went to into one of the bays switched the engine off and droped the anchor fished awhile then went to move off brought the anchor up but could not get the motor started so we rowed to the shore to check the engine, we found that the propeller pin had snapped and that we were lucky that the propeller had not droped off, I must tell you that Stef was a plant fitter and he is one of those people who could turn his hand to anything. So there we were without a motor at the far end of Kielder and we did not want to row back,so there we were looking through our bags to see if we had some thing to use as a pin. We could not find any thing to use when Stef saw that on the side of the boat their was a screw hanging half out, so Stef found something to unscrew the screw and found it was the right size to go through the propeller and fastened the propeller back on and it lasted almost all the way back when the engine cut out and we checked the propeller and the screw had snapped so we had to row back which was funny because I could not row properly and Stef had to row back.We had a few more incidents over the next year, some at Kielder, Fontburn and the river Derwent .
