Question Advice on fly line with lasting floating tip

Hi
I have 2 problems:
1. A line I have had for 6 years (S.A. Ultra 3 or 4, not sure DT6F) is giving me trouble. I use it 6 to 8 times per month on lakes during the trout season and have taken care of it well (cleaning and coating etc.). It still casts beautifully, but the tip sinks a little after a few casts, pulling the little dries down. I have a needle knot on the end with 10 cm of 18lb mono loop to looped with a copolymer tapered leader.

Can anybody suggest a way to stop the tip from sinking?

2. If I can't stop the tip from sinking the line will probably work very nicely as a midge tip line. However I must now go once more into clutter of fly line offerings and splash out anything from 40 to 80 euro on something to serve me as well over the next 6 years. I'm partial to Scientific Anglers for no reason I can explain. The Mastery DT6F looks good. Any ideas or suggestions on a nice casting line with a lasting floating tip are welcome.

Regards
Brian McG

I haven't fly fished for six years so i might be being a bit naive here but i wouldn't expect no line no matter how much it cost or how much i had looked after it. To last six years.

Try coating the tip, generously with Dilly Wax. Mine are not as old as that but they were prone to sinking..now they float like a cork all day.

Phil Holding (SpidersPlus) on the forum, sells it.

Thanks Roy
Dilly Wax looks difficult to find. Is it different to Muscilin, Gink etc?

Phil is on the Forum and it's on his Web Site. Never tried Muscilin but definately better than Gink for this job,

I run it up the line as far as I can, onto the Mono and use Loon Aquel on the Fly and Tippet.

Superglue works fine. I think the flexing action breaks down the seal after a while so it needs re-doing every so often

Another trick, which has been known to get some strange looks, is to use a high silicone polish as a line treatment. I sometimes use a silicone liquid aerosol designed for the bed of paper-cutting guillotines (I'm a printer, so have this readily to hand), but "Mer" works pretty well, and despite my friends saying that'll ruin the line, it doesn't hurt any of mine, variously S.A., Rio and Airflow, both coldwater and tropical saltwater types.
