Default Strange happenings can anyone explain ?

I,m not long back from orkney, one day we went to boardhouse it was like a mill pond. after fishing for an hour or so i noticed 1 single wave aprox 1ft high rolling right across the loch at a very slow pace. It was definitly not a boat that caused it this was a real wave that traveld the full width of boardhouse it was very odd. even the chap at the boat place could not shed any light on it ? Can anyone explain this or has anyone seen this before.

Could the Orkney synchronised swimming team have been practising at the top end of the loch??

I have seen this before Im glad someone else has because now I know im not mad.

I was on holiday in fermanagh with my family last year and went out on Lough Erne in my boat at 6.30am. Now Erne is 30,000+ acres and it was like a sheet of glass. There wasn,t another boat in sight. I watched this freak wave for about 30 minutes as it moved towards from the distance. It passed me slowly and carried on down the Lough. Like you say it was about a foot high.

I asked a few locals who said they had seen similar waves before. Some reckon it was currents and a build up of energy, bouncing off one shore

Ive seen this on Lomond in a flat but in my case its always been caused by the wash from a passing boat. The boat can be long gone by the time the wave reaches you, depending of course on the distance the wave has to travel.

Maybe someone actually released a fish & it swam away ecstatically.
