Default LOCAL CLUBS

Hi all

I am new to the forum, and relatively new to river fishing, so apologies if I am going over old ground.

I am interested to know your views on whether to join a club. Whilst day tickets are convenient and allow for variety, they are a bit of a fag to obtain especially if you want to fish early morning or Sundays. Also I am not sure they encourage individuals to get involved outside the actual act of fishing, such as bankside work, stocking policy, S&TA or Angling Trust etc membership. Are most fly anglers members of clubs? If not, should we be encouraging them to be in order to make sure the fly anglers can present a more unified voice?

My local water is the Wharfe, and I need to work for a living Monday to Friday. I have fished the Bolton Abbey and Ilkley stretches, both of which would be very nice but for the hordes of daytrippers in and around the water which make them borderline unfishable at weekends. The Bolton Abbey stretch is managed by the Estate for financial gain, rather than by a club for the benefit of its members. Does anyone know whether memberships are available at Addingham, Kilnsey or Burnsall or are they silly money?

Apologies also for the length of my first post!!

Thanks for the quick turnaround folks. Had a look at the BCAA waters on the website - do you know if they are fly only or can our coarse friends have some summer fishing? In your experience, is a stretch fished heavily with worms/maggots etc spoiled for fly fishers or does it not make much difference?

Thanks bobsmith, have PM'd you back
