Default Fast sinkers

Usually fish from the bank but I shared a boat on Saturday and was delighted my Hi d line using mate caught a good bag while I merrily blanked with a WetCel 2.
The fish were obviously nailed to the lake bed and a fast sinker was the only recourse as the wind was pretty strong but - apart from blanking – what spoiled it for me was the way the line felt as it was retrieved, it was perpendicular to the surface of the lake and came up at 90 degrees to the length of the rod, too much like legering directly beneath the boat for my liking.
I wondered if a long braid filled with lead wire attached to a floating line would give a better profile to the line and a more pleasant retrieve which feels more like the bank fishing experience.

Has anyone tried a set up like this and if so does it work - or am I stuck with buying a Hi d?

Buy a Di7

Colin, much as I love you dearly, (there ... it's out in the open! ) I wouldn't want to share a boat with anyone attempting to cast the 'arrangement' you're suggesting.

If however, it's Finylas you're sharing a boat with, then I think it's an excellent idea and well worth persevering with.

Edit ... PS The vertical retrieve can, on its day be a killer and if indeed it was Finylas you were fishing with, he can't cast further than the depth of the water anyway.

I know you love me Paul and I love you too, however not Finylas on this occasion but Bob B. If it had been Finylas we'd have fished the bank, he doesn't mix rods and boats much after the traumtic episode.

Looks like a Di 7 then....what a bl@@dy awful prospect. Mind you I've always wonderd how a booby would do for sewin so now's my chance.

Begging post in Wanted section to follow.

Are Airflo Deltas any good, they look cheap enough for the occasional reluctant user!

I know, I know ... we all have to 'lift out skirts' and lower our standards from time to time.

A worrying but, no doubt, well meant analogy!

Any opinions on the delta, do they disolve on contact with water, coil like a slinky etc. .....

Why not get on to Sportfish and buy a pair of Airflo Sixth Sense lines - there's a discount if you buy 2. I am sure you have a gap in your collection of lines for a slower sinker - a slow or fast glass or DI3 - as well as the DI7.

As far as I can tell, my own Sixth Sense slow glass sinks around the same speed as the old Wet Cel 1, and the fast glass as the Wet Cel 2. So they are useful lines, especially for bank fishing.

Fast sinker turned out to be a particularly apt title for this thread!

As luck would have it I was able to get a new Airflo Delta di 7, delivered, for just under £15.00 from Ebay, cheap enough.
