Default Sage Rod Advice please.

Hi all, This is my first post so be nice! I am looking into getting a new rod. I have been fly fishing sine I was 10, now 26 and have used the same rod throughout. A Shakespeare Sigma Graphite 9ft 7wt. All my mates laugh at me but it has been catching me fish! Lots of too! Finally decided to retire it though and hang it on the wall in my study. So, the rod that has been taking my fancy is a Sage Flight! Anybody out there use one and pass on some info possibly? And if anybody uses something similar they reccomend worth trying out that would be great too. My fishing is mainly for Sea trout on the rivers and Trout on the reserviors so Im thinking a 9ft and either an 8 or 9wt. All advice greatly received. Even ribbing about using my rod. Im immune to it now, I can take it.

First of all I would suggest you do not need an 8 or 9 weight for what you want to use it for.

I don't mean to state the obvious but why change?
Not sure about the rivers where you are but i have settled on a 9' 6wt for my sea trout fishing in Devon, which just happens to be a Sage XP.
Cheers

From the sounds of things, he's changing because he's tired of the BS from the Label Lovin' Poser Boys he fishes with. They've probably got everything Sage right down to their new Sage technical y-fronts.

TG, don't let the label lovers force your hand when it comes to rods. Buy your own rods, for your own reasons.

Rods are fishing tools and should be matched to fishing situations. No single company has a lock when it comes to making "the best" rods and there has never been as many good rods on the market as there is today.

Couldn't agree more.

Having said that i suppose we all go through the compulsive stage with hobbies and then realise that "if you buy the best you only buy it once".

In my experience quality always pays in the end.

By the way this is my first ever post also. But unfortunately i'm not on my first, or last, rod!!

Hi tgevans, don't listen to all the BS that if you buy a Sage your only buying it for the label. Every time anyone mentions buying a Sage on here this s**t starts. I have been using Sage rods for near on twenty years now and they are the dogs b*lls. IMHO there is nothing to touch them and they are a real joy to use. Yes there are some nice rods from other manufactures out there but most of them are playing catch up to Sage. If you can afford the best then buy the best and don't be one bit ashamed about it. I'll bet you wont regret it.

Basically, the rod I have been using was given to me by my Father who is no longer with us so my decision to stop using it is so that I still have it in one piece before it does get damaged. And all my fishing buddies use Loomis rods, not Sage. My spinning gear comprises of an old Shakespeare rod and an old Abu Garcia Cardinal Reel. My bag is an old Abu game bag from the 70's that was my grandfathers, then my uncles, then my cousins, then my brothers. And now mine. So yes I suppose I am a label junkie! New kit all round. The Sage felt more comfortable in my hand than any Loomis I have used, and I preferred it to my uncles Hardy. Thanks for all the positive feedback, especially Mr Trout Hunter....But there is always one isnt there. T

From that neck of the woods I would buy a 7'6" 3# and enjoy the multitude of streams that you have on your doorstep.

That irrelevance said; I fish Sage SLTs and they are perfect for me in 3 to 5#s but I don't know about Flights.

Go to Sportfish and try every rod they have, in your range on the casting pool and make your own mind up.
