Default How to fish the flies in your box?

Hi

I'm an intermediate fly fisherman who wants to progress but one of the things thast seems to be missing from the market is how to fish the numerous flies being produced.

There are thousands of books that show you how to tie a fly but they don't then tell you the best methods to fish them.

I want to know how best to fish a buzzer, how about a damsel, a montana, a blood worm, a diawl bach etc....

What is the best way to set up a single/double dropper etc...

Fulling Mill for example provide a wonderful catalogue with every fly possible but it would be nice to know how, when and why I should buy one to fish with.

Before everyone responds saying it depends on the conditions, the hatches etc... I appreciate that, but we all know some of the best advice we get is from this forum or a fellow fly fisher on our local water.

Help me out please.

Cheers

Rob

Think about what it is your fly is representing, and try and imitate its movements. A damsel nymph for example swims with short jerky movements, so short sharp pulls work well. Buzzers rise through the water column to hatch, so very little lateral movement is needed, so fish them static or very slow figure 8, etc etc.

To know how to fish flies, study a little entomology Rob.
