Default Frogs Fanny Alternative

Sorry Gents/Ladies,

The information posted here was incorrect, with the product I received being Hydrophilic, and therefore unuseable for the fly.

My apologies if this has mislead you into purchasing.

For those of you who use Frogs Fanny, I have found a supplier of the material.

As you probably know, its HYDROPHOBIC FUMED SILICA, and cost between £6-£7 plus p+p for the tiny bottle, if you can find it in stock.

If you give Nick a ring at TOMPS : Mould Making Supplies : Casting Supplies : Plasterers Supplies (0845 6586677) he will be able to send you a 250g bag of the stuff for £5.61 plus £2.99 p&p.
That amount should last for ages, and you just need to refill the original bottle.

TOMPS

The above will take you to the product on his site, (made by Cabosil).

Hope this is of some use to you all, it was to me.

I must point out that I have no affiliation to this company, nor receive payment or discount.

All the best

TF
Hi TF

Regarding fumed silica.
Are you sure this is the same stuff as I have tried fumed silica before and the stuff I had did not works as good a frogs fanny.
Could be the stuff I was using. Or are there adding something else to the powder?

Not doubting you but have you tried it?

Gary

Hi Gary

On describing frogs fanny to Nick, he said it was the same stuff, with the hydrophobic properties as well.

My order will be here next week so will let you know for sure.

Have I jumped the gun?

Only time will tell, I'll let you know mate.

Phil at flytying boutique does something very similar but cheaper, I haven't tried it yet as I've still half a bottle but I will.

Will be interesting to see if it is the same stuff. I've got to admit I absolutely love FF with cdc.

Garry Evans has it not too far from you.

I use fumed silica from this guy

Every bit as good as Frogs Fanny... and I apply with a cheap make-up brush. Times cheaper and excellent quality.
