Default lake district tarns

could anyone tell me if there is a definitive guide anywhere about which tarns actually do contain trout? last week my wife and i had a cracking week camping, hillwalking and a little flyfishing but local knowledge(keswick). seemed very hard to find. any info would be very welcome.

Hi Ben
We had a difficult day on Hayeswater Sat – the conditions were breezy with a ripple mostly, but VERY bright!
Fish were topping most of the day (10am-5pm) despite the brightness, tho many were too far out to cast to. We tried all kinds of dries and emergers but couldn’t crack what they were taking. I did see a lot of “mayfly” family flies – one landed on my knee (see blurry pic below) and it looked maybe BWO?
One of us caught on a claret ”creeper” – a shop bought fly looking like a large nymph, about 15ft down slow retrieve.
On Angle same evening there was a massive caenis hatch (I was covered in them) and I caught on top with a sz18 caenis. Also caught on a sz20 black midge and they went nuts for a red body beetle pattern
