I'm sure others will have their own opinion, but for me, fishing smallish still waters I have an intermediate which sinks at 1-1.5" per second, and a faster one which sinks at 3" per second.
I also have a sink tip, which I haven't used yet.
Having said that, although I used the sinkers in the winter, when the fish are deep, I use a floater 95% of the time.
Incidentally, all my lines are from the Pirate. Excellent value and quality.
Hope this helps,
Cheers,
Gary

Again, on a personal basis I would say, perhaps an intermediate and then a Di3 as you can wait a little longer for it to sink if needs be (as you arent drifting towards it on a boat, you can afford a few seconds grace)

That said, you could get a sinktip line, intermediate and a di3-style from the Pirate for at least the same price as two of the big name brands.

Best of luck

Ben

For me the DI3 has been the most successful sinking line for the past three seasons. As its name suggests it sinks at 3" per second and I've rarely needed to count beyond 20 seconds for it to find fish.

Default Intermediate

What sort of sinking speed you call an intermediate sunkistbob?

Thanks

My favourite for small still waters is an old Olive Green Shakspeare neutral density Glider. They have been replaced with a blue version but the sink rate is a bit faster.

I think the "pirate" told me he was looking to develop a neutral density line to match the original Olive Green line.

I hope he does before my old line gives up the ghost.

Its great for speed control into or across a wind. With a slow retrieve it just hovers nicely below the surface drift.
