That Pike looks a tad dry to me and not on a mat, was it returned unharmed?

Default Well Done!

Well done, Craig!

Congrats on getting back into fly fishing and for catching a cracking pike on a #5 outfit.

Glad the reel managed it and happy that the rod got to you in time.

Ben

Good fishing Craig and well done However, Pirate's comment/question isn't unreasonable - sound's like you half expected it. As you say, no unhooking mat on hand usually when fly fishing, but assuming you landed it by net, I would try to lie it on the wet net as much as possible, failing that some soft wetted grass, anything but directly on bare ground. Glad you returned it quickly - more than some others have done at Ravensthorpe on past ocassions from what I understand

Did you reline your 5wt reel or just use a larger reel?
Sounds like you put 8wt on a small 5wt reel?
Must have removed all the backing if you did?
