WelshFish is on a distinguished road
Default Llyn Trawsfynydd

I am thinking of going fishing to Llyn Trawsfynydd, next weekend. I have never been there before, so does anyone have any information of where to fish and what flies to use ?

I think they also hire out boats, as it's such a big water, so am I better off booking a boat for the day or fishing from the bank ?

Thanks.
Welshfish.

Trawsfynydd is a great place to fish. Some excellent brownie fishing as well as stocked rainbows. Personally i would recommend boat fishing as it is such a big lake to explore. I havent fished it for a couple years but i plan on doing do again this year. From what i remenber and hearing prople talking bae islwyn around the bottom end is very good as well as badgers rock up the top end. As for tackle you could try anything up to a fast glass pulling wets or sinkers fishing boobies/blobs vivas, etc

Hope this helps

Let me know how you get on

Regards
jonathan

I fished it a good few years ago on the Irish Youths International Team.
Definitely need a boat to fish it properly I think.
I found the wooded shore on the west side best for the brownies, cast your trditional wets in arouund the trees as you drift.
The best I found for the rainbows were the bays just south from the wooded shoreline.
I had some great fishing for the rainbows on size 14 dry hoppers in various colours, as for wets, they were very partial to a claret bumble/muddler.
A "haul a gwent" (if the Welsh will forgive my spelling) fished damp and static was also a consistent taker of fish.
Hope this helps.
